Providencia Es Pasion

Providencia Island (Old Providence) Guide

Unspoilt white sand beaches, crystal clear seas, friendly Caribbean locals living on a mountainous and forested island - Providencia (or Old Providence in English) is perhaps the greatest hidden gem of the Caribbean. With a population of just 5000 people, just a dozen small hotels and a blissfully undeveloped landscape, this is the Caribbean of yesteryear. Many other islands in the Caribbean have sold their souls and are now blighted by over-priced sprawling resorts, but Colombia's Providencia offers something altogether very different. This is how the Caribbean was before the dawn of mass tourism - beautiful, peaceful, friendly and unspoilt.

Tourism to English speaking Providencia remains low key and small in numbers. UNESCO has declared the island and it's seas as the Sea Flower Biosphere Reserve in recognition of the area's immense natural biodiversity, and those tourists who do experience Providencia are treated to stunning white sand beaches lapped by the tranquil Caribbean sea. And with the world's third largest barrier reef, Providencia Island is a scuba divers dream.

Visitors to Colombia's most idyllic island are rarely disappointed. You might be relaxing on a stunning beach devoid of any people, snorkelling with turtles, trekking into the island's rainforested interior, experiencing some of the world's best scuba diving sites, learning about the various pirate treasures still present on the island or sipping an evening cocktail at a reggae bar on the beach. The island is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will never leave you. Visit Providencia - Providencia es Pasion!
